United States Senator Intervenes in 73-year Fight for Korean War Veteran's Purple Heart

After a 73-year wait and a prolonged battle with the U.S. Army, Korean War veteran Earl Meyer from Minnesota is finally set to receive his Purple Heart medal. Meyer, 96, of St. Peter, was notified last month that he had been awarded the Purple Heart, which honors service members wounded or killed in combat.

Despite having shrapnel in his thigh causing occasional pain, Meyer will receive the medal at a ceremony at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.

Meyer’s application had been repeatedly rejected by an Army review board due to insufficient paperwork.

73 Years Later, St. Peter Man Finally Getting Purple Heart

However, a determined campaign by Meyer’s three daughters and his attorney, supported by U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and the Army’s top noncommissioned officer, the sergeant major of the Army, led to a reversal. A federal judge ordered the review board to reconsider Meyer’s case.

Senator Klobuchar’s involvement was crucial in highlighting the challenges wounded veterans face in securing the medals they deserve. “Seventy-three years, yeah. That’s a long time all right... I didn’t think they would go for it,” Meyer said in an interview after receiving the news.

Klobuchar will be among the dignitaries at the ceremony, with a former aide who worked on Meyer’s case singing the national anthem, according to Meyer’s daughter, Sandy Baker.

Although Sgt. Maj. of the Army Michael Weimer cannot attend, he sent a letter expressing gratitude for Meyer’s “selfless service and dedication.”

He added a handwritten note at the bottom: “Thank you for not giving up on us! Long overdue!” Weimer will send two command sergeant majors from the Army National Guard in his place, Baker said.

Staten Island Artist Scott Lobaido Unveiled His "Diks Of Hazard" In NYC

Controversial Staten Island artist and activist Scott Lobaido released 100 pink penis-shaped balloons featuring the faces of Donald Trump's foes, such as Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, outside the courthouse where the ex-president’s hush money trial is taking place.

The pro-Trump patriotic provocateur said he released the “art installation” — which also features the faces of US Special Counsel Jack Smith and Manhattan Judges Juan Merchan and Arthur Engoron — titled “D–ks of Hazard” to show that “these guys are a bunch of useless d–ks.”

“As a New Yorker, this is how we talk,” Lobaido told The Post.

The artist spent $1,500 on supplies for the balloon installation. It took about two days to affix the faces onto the balloons and add weights to prevent them from floating away too quickly.

Lobaido said he believes that Engoron, Merchan, Smith and Bragg are trying to “destroy” Trump and “the constitution” and was driven by what he believes is the judges’ and prosecutors’ “disrespect” for the presumptive 2024 GOP presidential nominee. [Read More]
