NY Governor Hochul Kills Congestion Pricing at Last Minute as Desperate Democrats Fight to Keep NY Blue

Congestion pricing in Manhattan, which would charge car drivers $15 and trucks more for entering south of 60th Street during the day, aimed to generate approximately $1 billion annually. However, Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a whiplash decision to delay its implementation- indefinitely-  just weeks before its launch date.

Hochul’s statement said this decision was due to some sudden realization of how adding a $75 weekly tax on commuters would create “too many unintended consequences for New Yorkers.”

A CNN article cited a “source familiar with the Governor’s plan”  as saying the decision is based on “concerns about affordability and the potential impact to the city’s post-pandemic economic recovery.”

Well, yeah - no shit Sherlock.

It’s difficult for any critical thinker to believe that the Conscience Fairy magically visited Hochul and gifted her with a heart - or a conscience- which helped her understand that New Yorkers and other commuters are already barely breathing with big government’s knee on our backs, squeezing every last breath of hard work out of us and raping our wallets.

What’s more likely and easier to see, is what City Councilmember Joe Borelli, representing parts of Staten Island, said. Calling the decision  politically motivated, Borelli said, “Democrats are in a tailspin nationally, and now Hochul is flip-flopping on a state-wide poison pill that affects places where Democrats need to take back the House.”

John Samuelsen, president of the Transport Workers Union, who was already counting the money in his sleep, agreed, saying, “This was going to be a disaster for Hochul at the ballot, and the plan is bleeding into the Democrats' efforts to take back the House.”

New Yorkers have never liked the plan, which was created during Cuomo’s reign and never gained popularity. An April Siena College poll indicated 63% of New York voters opposed the plan, with only 25% in favor. Wouldn’t you love to know who that 25% is?

While business owners in the targeted zone, commuters, and even Democrat NJ Governor Phil Murphy, who threatened a lawsuit over the tax, breathe a sigh of relief, Transportation Alternatives, an advocacy group supporting the plan, criticized the delay, stating, “Delaying congestion pricing is a slap in the face to millions of New Yorkers who rely on public transportation. The next time your train is late, your bus is trapped in traffic, your subway station is still missing an elevator, you know who to blame: Governor Kathy Hochul.”  [Read More]

The impact of Biden's policies on the oil and gas industry resulted in a $250 billion loss in U.S. GDP.

Biden's War On Oil And Gas Cost U.S. $250 Billion In Lost GDP

President Joe Biden’s approach to the oil and gas sector has resulted in a substantial economic loss for the United States, totaling over $250 billion, according to a recent study.

The Committee to Unleash Prosperity shared its research findings with The Daily Wire, highlighting that U.S. oil production growth under Biden has not kept pace with the trajectory set during the Trump administration.

Although U.S. oil production is at an all-time high, the current output is only marginally above the levels seen in 2019, before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The study, authored by Stephen Moore, Co-Founder of the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, and Casey Mulligan, Ph.D., Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago and Senior Fellow at the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, presents a detailed analysis of the situation.

“The Energy Information Agency had forecasted potential U.S. oil production to reach up to 15 million barrels under existing trends,” the study reports. “However, data indicates that in the latter half of 2023, the U.S. managed an average daily oil production of 13.2 million barrels, nearing the peak levels observed during Trump's presidency.”

The report also notes that the average cost of a barrel of oil has risen under Biden’s tenure, averaging $72 per barrel compared to $54 per barrel during Trump’s term.

While productivity per new oil well saw a 23% increase under Trump, it “dropped significantly” after Biden assumed office in January 2021, continuing through late last year, “both in absolute terms and relative to prior trends.”

This slowdown in production growth is attributed to “rising extraction costs, which are a direct result of heightened regulation, increased taxes, and reduced investor confidence in funding petroleum ventures,” the study concludes.
